Hyundai Elantra coming to India

All new Hyundai Elantra coming to India this August 

Mumbai: Hyundai will be launching the all new Elantra, as early as August this year. The Elantra isn't new to India, the car was launched in 2004 and was available in petrol and diesel forms.

The car however didn't find much success here and Hyundai ended its production in 2008. When the rest of the world received the 4th generation model, Hyundai decided to give India a miss.

This time, the company will launch the latest fifth gen Elantra that is currently sold internationally. The car was shown early this year at the Auto Expo and attracted a lot of attention thanks to its new fluidic design.

The previous Elantra wasn't an attractive car but the newer model carries a strong resemblance with the Verna and recently launched Sonata both outside as well as the inside. This is a good thing considering the popularity of the Verna.

Globally the car in available in both petrol and diesel variants.

India will get the 1.8-litre petrol engine with dual continuous variable valve timing and produces a maximum power of 150PS. The diesel mill is 1.6-litre Crdi unit that is expected to produce 128PS. Six-speed manual and auto transmissions are on offer as well.

From what we've experienced from Hyundai, especially after their fluidic transformation expect the Elantra to offer a long list of features. We wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of first in segment features.

In terms of safety, expect the car to offer four airbags as standard fitment in the basic variant going up to six in the fully loaded top end model.

The Elantra is expected to be priced between Rs 13-16 lakh and will compete head-on against the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze, Renault Fluence, Skoda Laura and the Volkswagen Jetta.
